Setup & Support
Everything you need in the first week: how to pair it, how to switch models, what to do when it will not connect, and what the camera does and does not do.
Setup in four steps
- Charge it fully. KIBO One takes about 3 hours, KIBO Swap about 2.5. A half-charged robot fails in the middle of pairing, which is the single most common setup problem.
- Install the app named in the box and create an account. Turn Bluetooth on.
- Pair the robot in the app, then enter your Wi-Fi details there. Both models support 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
- Let it restart and say hello. First response can take 20–30 seconds while the model warms up.
Switching between the five models
Open the app, go to the model or "brain" setting, and pick ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Qwen or Doubao. The switch takes effect on the next sentence — no restart needed. Different models are better at different things: DeepSeek for maths and code, Gemini for questions about what the camera is looking at, Doubao for fast casual chat.
It will not connect — work through this in order
- Check the battery. Below 15% the Wi-Fi chip drops out.
- Confirm your network is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz SSID. Some routers hide it behind a single name.
- Re-enter the password in the app. Autocorrect and trailing spaces cause most failures.
- Move the robot within three metres of the router for the first connection.
- Restart the robot, then the app, then the router — in that order.
- Still stuck? Write to us through the contact form with the model name and the app version.
The camera, honestly
KIBO uses its camera on request: to recognise a face, an expression, or an object you hold up to it. It does not record video continuously and it does not store footage of your home. Speech is processed in the cloud to generate a reply — that is unavoidable if you want a real conversation rather than canned lines. Each app has its own retention settings; read them before giving the robot to a child.
Both models are recommended for ages 8 and up. They contain small electronic parts and an unconstrained language model, and neither is a babysitter.
Battery and care
- KIBO One: 3000 mAh, roughly 5–6 hours of active conversation, several days on standby.
- KIBO Swap: 2600 mAh, roughly 4–5 hours active.
- Both charge over USB-C at 5V/2A. A fast charger above that will be refused by the robot, not damaged.
- The fabric cover on both models unzips and washes cold. Remove the electronics module first.
Warranty and returns
Twelve months against manufacturing defects. If the head stops turning, the screen fails or it stops charging, send a video of the fault and we replace the unit — we do not ask you to ship it back first. Thirty-day returns on unused units in the original packaging.
